WRAP Decision Guide
Walk any tough decision through the four-step WRAP process: Widen your options, Reality-test your assumptions, gain distance (Attain perspective), and Prepare to be wrong. You finish with a one-page decision brief.
List at least 3 options
Most bad decisions come from too-narrow framing ("should I do this or not?"). Force breadth:
- What would you do if your favorite option vanished?
- Could you run both — a small test of each?
- What would a trusted friend suggest you consider?
- What's the opposite of your current leaning?
Find the disconfirming evidence
We naturally hunt for proof we're right. For each option, write evidence for it — and evidence against it. The "against" column is the valuable one.
The 10-10-10 lens
Short-term emotion distorts big choices. For each option, how will you feel about it in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years? Then pick what you'd advise your best friend to do.
Choose, then set tripwires
Every decision can be wrong. A tripwire is a condition you set now — "if X happens, I reconsider" — so future-you isn't fooled by sunk cost.
